PaperGraphics

I was having a look at some of Yulia Brodskaya's work online and came across this beautiful 'papergraphic' she had created. Yulia has a substantial selection of papergraphics on her website but there was just something about this one that caught my eye. Maybe it was the vibrant colours and the way she has succinctly merged type with the image. Or perhaps it was the nature aspect of this image as I have always loved including butterflies and flowers in my Design and Art work. I love how if you keep looking at this image you start to see things within it that you didn't notice before.
Another thing I like about Yulia Brodskaya's work is how she photographs her images with diffused light, the softness of the light really contributes to the whole atmosphere of the photograph.

When researching Yulia Brodskaya's work I came across another designer who creates paper sculptures called Su Blackwell. She also uses nature forms which is the first reason that intrigued me to look further into her work.
I found out that in some of her work she uses vintage books and cuts out images from the books with a scalpel and creates a 3D sculpture with them. She at first reads the book and then uses the context to inspire her when making the sculpture.

I love her idea of making something old into something new

"Paper has been used for communication since its invention; either between humans or in an attempt to communicate with the spirit world. I employ this delicate, accessible medium and use irreversible, destructive processes to reflect on the precariousness of the world we inhabit and the fragility of our life, dreams and ambitions".  Su Blackwell
