When I was researching swirls I decided to look at some jewellery I had previously made, using the laser cutter, as I had drawn lots of swirls to create the detailing in these heart necklaces. I wanted to make enough detail to make it look intricate but big enough swirls to make sure my design would not break because it was too fine.
I wanted the same effect to happen with my numbers- lots of swirls but thick lines so I was sure the swirls would work well in card/paper.
